1. Hosts

1.1. The Host Country of the first International Economics Olympiad is Russia. The IEO will take place in Moscow (inside Moscow Oblast).

1.2. The Host Organization of the first International Economics Olympiad is National Research University Higher School of Economics (HSE).

2. Dates of the IEO

2.1. The approximate program of the IEO is as follows:

  • 14 September: Arrivals
  • 15 September: Opening Ceremony, First round of the competition
  • 16 September: Second round of the competition
  • 17 September: Day in Moscow
  • 18 September: Third round of the competition: preparation
  • 19 September: Third round of the competition
  • 20 September: Moderation
  • 21 September: Closing Ceremony
  • 22 September: Departures

2.2. All contestants, team leaders and observers are expected to arrive on 14 September and leave the venue on 22 September. Early or late arrivals or departures should be discussed with the Steering Committee. Visitors and guests may arrive at any day.

3. Application and Registration

3.1. According to the Statute of the IEO, the team application process consists of two stages: State and Institutional. Applying as a team means that an applicant agrees with the Statute and Annual Regulations 2018, guarantees to organize contestants selection process and support (including finding means to cover their travel costs), to find and appoint team leader(s).

3.2. A team from a certain country may apply at the Institutional application stage regardless of the results of the State application. This application can be initiated by any legal entity from this country, including government institutions and non-governmental organizations. Applications will be reviewed by the Executive Board according to the Statute.

3.3. All applications should be sent to the email address of the Steering Committee: sc2018@ecolymp.org. The Steering Committee will confirm the receipt of the application within two working days (this is not the approval of the application). There is no official form of the application letter, but it should include the name of the institution that will handle the process, its address, telephone numbers, the name and the contact details of the team coordinator. During the Institutional application, it is recommended that the letter includes an explanation of the selection process.

3.4. The State application deadline is 30 April 2018. The Institutional application deadline is 31 May 2018.

3.5. The names and details of the contestants and team leaders should be provided to the Steering Committee no later than 30 June 2018 by filling in the form provided by the Steering Committee. All changes after this date are possible only upon Steering Committee approval.

3.6. A team should consist of 1 to 5 contestants and 1 to 2 team leaders, one of whom is appointed team leader A.

3.7. Each contestant should bring to the IEO the document confirming that he/she is eligible to participate.

4. Fees

4.1. There are no participation fees for teams that are invited to the IEO, including up to 5 contestants and up to 2 team leaders. This covers accommodation in the shared rooms and meals costs during the dates between Arrivals and Departures days, excursions, gifts, and prizes.

4.2. The participation fee for a third team leader, an observer, or a visitor is 1200 euros per person. This fee covers accommodation in the shared rooms and meals costs during the dates between Arrivals and Departures days, excursions, gifts, and prizes.

4.3. Single rooms are available upon request in limited numbers. The charge is 500 euros per person for the dates between Arrivals and Departures days.

4.4. All participation fees and room charges must be made before 31 July 2018. Applications received without full payment will be rejected with no refunds.

4.5. If an observer or a visitor wants to attend only part of the IEO program, he/she should discuss the participation fee with the Steering Committee.

4.6. The Steering Committee will take care of the transfers between all Moscow airports and the IEO venue on 14 September and 22 September, no fees apply. In case of arrival or departure outside these dates, the Steering Committee can organize the transfer for an extra charge. In any case, the detailed explanation of how to get to the IEO venue from the airports and Moscow city centre will be provided.
